Welcome to Sonairte

Sonairte is a visitor experience which promotes a love of the outdoors, organic produce, eco-awareness and sustainable living. We have been located at The Ninch, Laytown for 30 years and the centre is run almost entirely by dedicated volunteers. It is open to individuals and families. We are also taking bookings for organised groups, whether school or college tours, special interest groups, gardeners, active retirement groups, Dawn Chorus or Bird watching groups etc. or various courses. Our walled garden is producing tasty, organic produce. It is a place like no other and has something for everyone. Stroll the Walled Organic Garden, explore the Nature Trail,  have a picnic, visit our Shop and Information Centre, follow our Heritage Trail or call into our Bee Museum.

Sonairte: The National Ecology Centre Ltd is a registered non-profit taking Company Limited by Guarantee.

Sonairte are delighted to announce the launch of an exciting new project that will benefit our local wild species and habitats. Funded by the EU LEADER programme “The European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development: Europe investing in rural areas” (Grant no: MEA111477) and supported by the Meath Local Action Group, Sonairte have commissioned a Local Biodiversity Action Plan for this part of East Meath, encompassing the area between the River Nanny and River Boyne, and bordered to the west by the M50 motorway. We will be looking at how our natural and built areas may be managed in order to maximise their value for wildlife and biodiversity We have just started consultation on this project and we would love to hear from residents, landowners, business owners and anyone who cares about our local landscapes and biodiversity. Link to the online survey is available here:
