NATIONAL HERITAGE WEEK: Heritage Walk (FREE, Eventbrite ticket needed)
August 21 @ 15:00 - 16:00
Celebrate National Heritage Week (Sat 13th to Sun 21st August) by joining community historian Brendan Matthews on a heritage walk around the Sonairte grounds. The tour will make its way along the banks of the Nanny, where there are some stunning views of the surrounding natural heritage and Ballygarth Castle on the opposite bank of the river. Brendan will then lead the tour up to the summit of the wooded hill and to the ancient Rath or Hillfort site, where there may be seen magnificent views over the beautiful Nanny Estuary and the Irish Sea.
Brendan will conclude his tour at the Hillfort where he will speak about the origins and function of the Rath/Hillfort and will tell us about the most recent findings from a project supported by the Heritage Council under the Community Heritage Grant Scheme 2021 (Grant CH12252).
Sonairte reserves the right to cancel the event is minimum attendance numbers are not met or restrictions change due to COVID-19 regulations.
