BIODIVERSITY WEEK: Guided Garden and Nature Trail Walk (FREE, Eventbrite ticket needed)

20/05/2022 @ 14:00 - 16:00

To celebrate Biodiversity Week 2022 (15th to 22nd May) join  Sonairte for a FREE guided  walk and talk on the 20th of May with our own gardener Damien McGroarty to learn about how organic farming can protect biodiversity whilst producing healthy local food, and enjoy a guided tour of the Nature Trail at Sonairte.

The Nature Trail is located on the banks of the River Nanny estuary which is a Special Protection (SPA) under the E.U. Birds Directive, of special conservation interest for the following species: Oystercatcher, Ringed Plover, Golden Plover, Knot, Sanderling and Herring Gull. The E.U. Birds Directive pays particular attention to wetlands, and as these form part of this SPA, the site and its associated waterbirds are of special conservation interest https://www.npws.ie/protected-sites/spa/004158. Additionally, the Nature Trail has a range of habitats from salt marsh to woodland and permanent pasture so you are sure to have a fascinating day out in Nature.

With thanks to the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communication VIA the Irish Environmental Network (IEN) for supporting this event.
